Teaching has always been one of my biggest passions. As an educator, I believe that being passionate about the subject matter that I am teaching, as well as being passionate about teaching itself, has a major impact on a student’s perception of the material. I want any student who enters my classroom to feel excited to engage and explore the material, even if it is something that they might not have thought they would be interested in. I strive to create a safe, collaborative, and welcoming environment where everyone feels respected, and where students feel empowered to ask questions and take risks. My teaching style is rooted firmly in striving to create a dialogue in my classes, not just a lecture. I feel that when my students can participate through discussion, presentations, and projects, they walk away with a better grasp of the material we covered. I also believe in tailoring my teaching style to help accommodate each of my individual classes specifically. We do not all learn the same way, and I would much rather adapt a lesson to benefit the needs of my given class’s learning style than hold my teaching method to a rigid standard. I want my students to expand their horizons and knowledgebase, learn practical skills that are related to the subject matter, and hopefully gain a genuine interest in the topic that they are learning.
