Taylor Jaskula
Educator, Designer, Technician
I am a multi-discipline theater artist. I am an educator, lighting designer, electrician, technical director, and production manager. The lighting art form is not one that you can hold in your hands. You can’t touch it, or sculpt it like clay, and once the power is off, it leaves no lasting mark that it was ever there at all. As a designer, I choose to embrace this ephemeralness.
I strive to be an implementation based artist, always looking at how knowledge of the physical limitations of a space or technology can propel us to think of new creative ideas. I love to create, problem solve, and invent unique solutions to problems we never could have anticipated. Balancing how things work and interconnect in a giant puzzle is one of the things that I find an essential component of the world of technical theater.
Above all else, I am very passionate about teaching. The future of technical theater is only as strong as the next generation. We need to create a space where young technicians and designers can feel safe to experiment with ideas and expand their horizons in a way that is professional, respectful, and welcoming. I was fortunate enough to have so many incredible mentors, and I believe that it is extremely important to try and pass on some of the knowledge, dedication, and value of teamwork that I am so grateful these people taught to me.
